Manila is the capital city of the Philippines
This city is the center of the country's economic, political, social, and cultural activity.
The original name of the city was Maynilad which comes from the the nilad plant that grows at the banks of the river.
The name was shortened first to Maynila then to the present form to Manila.
Manila is home to one-eighth of the entire national population

Metropolitan Manila is administered by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)
There is also an administrative council consisting of mayors of each of the major cities as well as other officials.
Each city helps in administration and legislation, by having a mayor, vice mayor, counselors, and representatives from other sectors.
The representatives are appointed by the president upon vote of the local unit.
