Poverty
In 2018, Filipinos were helped out of poverty from 2015. Around 5.9 million Filipinos were no longer considered poor. The percentage declined approximately from 23.3% in 2015 - 16.6% in 2018. This translates to about 17.6 million Filipinos who lived below the poverty threshold. This is because their income is insufficient to meet their basic needs.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is approaching the set target to decrease poverty levels to around 14% by the end of 2022. The reason for the decline in poverty is because of the "expansion and enhancement of the government's social assistance programs provided additional income to the poorest sectors of the society."
